Some companies who purchase on credit are unwilling or unable to pay for their services or products. What can be done about this? This happens frequently, too. The way it is dealt with is similar to the way an individual debtor is dealt with.
Frequently the company who has extended the credit will try for several months to work with the borrowing company to get them to pay for their purchases. At that point it is apparent that they will likely not get them to pay. This is when it is time to turn the situation over to a commercial collection agency.
There are debt collection agencies who specialize in working with companies that are late in paying their bills. As in any collection agency, in commercial collection credit bureau may be contacted to find out the debtor's history. If the company has a history of bad debt, it is especially important to deal with the matter as soon as possible.
This type of commercial collection agency usually uses the same recovery tactics that the individual bill collector has, in trying to get the debtor to pay. However, the agency will be armed with debt collection software that will help them keep track of accounts, the mailing and calling and all other aspects of the collection. This makes them more efficient than the creditor in getting payment from the debtor.
Most commercial collection agencies will set a percentage of the debt they are able to collect as a fee for their services. This fee usually is usually about 30%, but can be anywhere from 15-50%. When keeping in mind that the agency will almost surely be more successful than the creditor in getting the debtor to pay, this is not a bad deal.
The business collector usually uses the same debt collection tactics they would use for an individual debtor. A letter will be sent to the company informing them that they must pay the debt. If there is no response, letters will be sent at regular intervals and increasing in urgency. The collector will then contact the company by phone.
In cases where the debtor does not respond positively and remains unwilling to begin making payments, the commercial collector has the option of suing for those funds. This is a last resort, but is sometimes necessary.
In cases involving collecting debts from a company, a commercial collection credit bureau will know the best route to take. They understand the legal aspects of collection of debt, and what can be done in the worst case scenario.
Debt Consolidation and Credit Card Management is a solution that has worked for many families facing financial difficulties. If you choose to go this route, find a reputable company, like Primark Solutions and work with them to consolidate your debts and get your bills under control.
